Upon honorable discharge from the U.S. Army First Infantry Division, Richard A. Sandoval received a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors from the University of New Mexico. He received a Juris Doctorate from the University of New Mexico where he also received a scholarship in his senior year for demonstrating tenacity and interest in all areas of law. Throughout law school, he actively participated in state and federal litigation while working as a law clerk for the Albuquerque City Attorney's office.

He was admitted to the New Mexico bar in 1997. He served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Fourth and First Judicial Districts, an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Albuquerque, and a Senior Litigation Attorney for the State of New Mexico Risk Management Division. Upon leaving public service, he joined the law firm of Kenneth C. Downes & Associates. Following several successful trials and subsequent arguments before the United States Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals, he was made partner and the firm became known as Downes & Sandoval., P.C.

Within the first seven months of joining the Branch Law Firm, he promptly resolved a national class action and two wrongful death medical malpractice claims. Recently, he has become a member of the federal VIOXX Multi-Litigation Discovery Committee where he has been appointed to the Privilege Log and Case Chronology projects. He is also actively pursing claims involving Guidant and Medtronic Implantable Defibrillators. In addition to product liability, his practice includes wrongful death, personal injury, medical malpractice, and nursing home abuse.

He is a former Adjunct Professor at New Mexico Highlands University where he instructed graduate and undergraduate students in Sociology of Law. He is member of the State Bar of New Mexico, the American Trial Lawyers Association, and is a Former President of the Fourth Judicial District Bar Association.
